MITSUNE: Japanese folklore reimagined
Blending Japanese musical heritage with sonic exploration, MITSUNE creates a unique world in which ancestral tales take on a new dimension. Comprising two shamisen players, a percussionist and a bassist, this quartet combines infectious rhythms, emotional intensity and spectacular visual aesthetics.
Through original compositions influenced by psychedelic, cinematic and ritualistic elements, the four artists offer an immersive musical experience at the crossroads of cultures. Bringing together musicians from Japan, Australia and Greece, MITSUNE has made a name for itself on the international scene, notably in *Rolling Stone* and *Songlines*.
Released in 2022, their album *Hazama* entered the Top 10 of the Transglobal World Music Chart and was nominated for the German Music Critics’ Award. A new album is expected in 2026.
Come and discover this original musical fusion at an exceptional concert organised by the UPHF as part of the Year of Japan.
