Lasting cooperation between UPHF and Indonesia
The relationship between the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France and Indonesia is a long-standing one, testifying to particularly dynamic academic and scientific cooperation. Developed over the years, these links are based on a shared desire to strengthen research training and respond to major scientific and technological challenges.
Thirteen Indonesian PhD students were welcomed to UPHF this year. Their presence in our research laboratories (notably LAMIHand IEMN) is the culmination of years of exchange and institutional collaboration.
To mark their arrival, a welcome lunch was held on March 30, attended by UPHF President Abdelhakim Artiba and Director of the INSA Hauts-de-France Jean-Christophe Popieul. The event, held in the presence of Ms Syarifa Hanoum, Attaché for Education at the Indonesian Embassy in Paris, as well as members of the university community involved in international relations and research, illustrates the importance attached to these human and scientific cooperations.
A structured partnership consolidated over the years
The collaboration between UPHF and its Indonesian partners has gradually been structured around ambitious academic projects. Among the major achievements is the signing, in 2023, of the Degree by Research program. This agreement represents a major step forward in the development of joint research training programs, enabling Indonesian students to enroll in master's and doctoral programs in close collaboration with the university's laboratories.
The cooperation has been strengthened with the launch of the Degree by Research program.
Cooperation was strengthened with the visit of a delegation from BRIN (Indonesia's National Agency for Research and Innovation) in December 2024. The meeting laid the foundations for a strategic partnership around sustainable transport, a major international challenge. This ambitious project includes the creation of a joint research structure under the CNRS label, illustrating the level of commitment and trust between the partners.
Finally, a cultural event dedicated to Indonesia took place at the end of 2025, in the presence of the Indonesian Ambassador to France and enlivened with music by the Gondang Orchestra Indonesia.
Specific support dedicated to welcoming international researchers
Hosting international doctoral students at UPHF relies on structured support mechanisms, essential to facilitating their installation and integration. In this respect, the university's EURAXESS center plays a key role in welcoming international researchers. Launched in 2004 by the European Commission, the EURAXESS network provides support for international researchers, whether or not they are nationals of the European Union.
The thirteen Indonesian PhD students who recently arrived in France have all benefited from this scheme. EURAXESS offers them personalized support at every stage of their move: assistance with administrative formalities (visa, residence permit, social security), help in finding accommodation, practical advice on day-to-day life, as well as orientation within the academic and scientific environment.
In addition to these practical aspects, the EURAXESS program is also designed to help them find their place in France.
Over and above these practical aspects, this service also contributes to their integration into the university community and the local area, by creating conditions conducive to their personal development and the success of their research work. This support is an essential lever for the international attractiveness of UPHF and the quality of the welcome reserved for international talent.
